Toys from China, age grade, test and lot

For a distributor, retailer or brand filling a warehouse and selling a toy on. The goal is a repeatable lot, a clear age grade and landed cost per piece that fits shelf price.

A trial of a few cartons is not the same job as a seasonal programme. A test can start from wholesale. A lot with your name on the box needs a factory, a mould or print and written sample approval. Do not promise brand packing on ten pieces.

Chenghai is a toy cluster: plastics, electronics in play, plush in wider Shantou. There you look at mould, granule colour, stitch and whether the line can repeat a lot. Yiwu is useful for a mixed trial and small extras. It is not proof that the same account will issue a report for your model.

A platform account with a Shantou address can still be a trader. A trader is not automatically a problem when they hold several small lines and say so. The problem is an account that will not give a sample from that line and will not put material in the purchase order. Papillon goes to the plant before a serious deposit.

The shortlist is two to three factories on the same piece: material, age grade, packing, MOQ and lead time. The lowest price without a report is not an offer for a toy that goes into a child’s hands.

A purchase order is not blue toy, 2,000 pieces. Without a spec the factory sends granule and box that are at hand that week.

The sample goes before the lot. Approval is written, with a photo and a list of what is in the box, not a message that it is fine. Sharp edge, a small part that detaches, magnet strength if there is one, sound, and whether the battery comes out as the instructions say are checked.

A mould for a new shape is a separate line, with mould ownership in the purchase order. The lot does not start until a sample from that mould is approved. A ready line model arrives faster. If the season date cannot take a mould, narrow the programme to models that already stand.

A branded box goes through packaging from China when print is not in the same factory. Two suppliers need one load date. A box that arrives two weeks after the toy is not a programme.

Pre-loading inspection opens boxes, counts contents, looks at colour, stitch and whether the report is tied to the model being packed, not a similar one from a catalogue. On sourcing execution above 2,000 USD independent quality control is standard. Below that threshold scope is agreed.

Batteries, magnets and liquids in play change packing and declaration. That is said before the vessel is booked, not at customs. Air for a sample is usual. Sea for a lot is about 35–52 days. Holiday season fills vessels. Backwards from the date goods must be in the shop you count make, sea and customs.

A late container after season is not only costlier freight. It is a warehouse of goods nobody wants until next year. That is why the date is cut before the deposit, not after.

The costliest error is not piece price. It is a model that has a report in the catalogue, and in the box another granule, another magnet or another battery. Inspection compares contents with the approved sample and with the report tied to that model. A similar model from the same factory is not proof.

The second error is the box. Print is late, language on the box is not the one on the shelf, the insert does not hold the piece. The box is a separate supplier when it is not in the same factory. Load date is one. If the box is not ready, the toy does not go and we will air the box, because then you pay two freights and still have no SKU for the shop.

The third error is season. A deposit in a month when the vessel no longer arrives before holidays turns cheap FOB into stock. That is why the calendar is cut backwards, and MOQ is not raised only because unit price is lower. A lower price on goods you do not sell is not a saving.

HS must be correct. The Serbia China FTA, in force from 1 July 2024, can lower the rate only with a correct COO. COO is requested before loading. The sheet uses two scenarios. Zero duty is not a toys-category promise.

Landed cost per piece adds goods, box, freight, duty, VAT and scrap you agreed. That number says whether import pays. Research takes 1–3 weeks, sample another 2–5, make often 4–10 weeks before sea.

Put in the brief a photo or model, age grade, target quantity, whether your name goes on the box, the warehouse date and which market needs which report. The answer is a factory proposal and a landed-cost outline, not a slogan that a toy from China is cheap.
